Right now, I am going through a great deal of cleansing. It started eight days before the Winter Solstice, and ten days later, it’s still going strong. Because things like this seem to cross all planes, I’m cleansing on physical, spiritual, emotional, and literal levels. My body has been purging parasites. (Yes, we all have them, and yes, many in modern germ-phobic America are not willing to talk about them openly even though they are a common issue!) When I have extra energy, I am feeling compelled to clean my house and get rid of piles of stuff that has built up over my years of illness. I’m doing a lot of emotional and metaphysical purging, too.
All of this is trickling down into even the smallest parts of my life. One of these places is social media. I have quit using Twitter altogether and almost never check in on listservs which I used to be very active on. Lately I’ve also found Facebook is consuming too much of my time. I don’t really want to stop using it completely though that is a solution many people resort to when they find Facebook becoming a time-suck. So as a part of this cleansing I’m going through, I’m also cutting back my "friend" list on Facebook. My goal is to eventually have Facebook down to a small group of close friends. It’s not personal toward those I’m removing. Please know that if I do "unfriend" you, it doesn't mean I'm cutting you out of my life. You can always still contact me through e-mail. We can meet up for lunch with friends. I also accept connections with almost everyone on LinkedIn because it is not a time consuming social site.
This is just one manifestation of my changing life. For me, this is a huge victory in so many ways. At long last, I am busy with my career and my social life and my family. I’m no longer so sick that I’m spending most of my days inert and trying to find things to do to pass the time. After nine years of being semi-homebound, I’m back in the interactive real world. I hope I’ll be seeing many of you out there some time in the future!
